Nowadys, most people focus on the study of more practicl field of tranlation while turn a blind eye to literature translation. In this repect, the literature translation is of paramount importance. As a paradigm of Chinese poems, the translation of The Book of Songs set an example for the translation of other Chinese poems in later dynasties. Generally speaking, by making a comparative study of the two English versions of The Book of Songs, the author finds that Xu#8217;s version is better than Legge#8217;s version. Although James Legge#8217;s version is more acceptable by foreigners, it can not reflect the beauties of sound, form and image implicated in The Book of Songs, which ignore the cultural aspects in the process of translation. However, as a Chinese professor, Xu Yuanchong have a better understanding of the connotaions of The Book of Songs, so he stroke a balance in literary and cultural aspects in translating it. As for these differences, the differences lie in translators#8217;different backgrounds. The translation of Chinese literature, especially that of The Book of Songs should attratct enough attention in promoting Chinese culture in the process of globalization, which will create a favourable environment for culture promotion and against cultural invasion.
