1. 研究目的与意义

I have been interested in details of differences in Chinese culture and English culture, so this time I choose to discuss the differences connotation of animal words in two cultures. In addition, this aspect is very interesting and useful, I hope it can also bring joy in cross-cultural communication besides academic knowledge.

With the development of globalization, communication between people in different areas becomes more and more frequent and diversification. It seems that you can travel all over the world as long as you can speak Chinese or English. However, people gradually find that communication is still very difficult because of cultural difference, they usually used the wrong words and caused the misunderstanding but completely didn#8217;t even know that. Therefore, the accuracy of language largely determines the quality of communication.

We all know that cultural-loaded vocabulary plays a very important role in language. Different social backgrounds as well as national cultures have a great effect on the cultural connotations of vocabulary. Animals are friends of human and also the important part of the whole ecological environment. Both in the English language and Chinese language, there are many animal words. However, because of different culture and history, different outlook on life and human, and the aesthetic view of different culture, animal words also have different connotations, and sometimes we use wrong animal words to express wrong meaning that cause misunderstanding. So it is of great importance for us to discern differences of animal words in Chinese and English. 3. 国内外研究现状

British anthropologist Edward Taylor pointed out in Primitive Culture: Culture is a complex whole; it includes knowledge, belief, art, law, morality, custom and any other capabilities and habits acquired by man as a member of society. Saussure indicated that the surroundings determine the value of the word. In addition, Sapir had pointed out that in order to make a good understanding of a word, it is important to understand the whole social life behind the word. From the above two points, animal words in some ways play very important role in reflecting cultural differences.

In recent years, the study of animal words almost all come from these aspects: same animal expressions with same cultural connotations; same animal expressions with different cultural connotations; same animal expressions without corresponding meaning in English and Chinese and different animal expressions with similar cultural connotations. It is brief, concision and well organized. Therefore, my paper is also analysis from these aspects. First, they discuss the cultural background and basic creation conditions of animal words, then divided their main content into four points which mentioned above. However, different from Bo who emphasized the problems that should be paid attention to in the process of translation, Xu Juan''''''''s paper puts more on the analysis on reasons that cause the cultural differences. My paper will combine two different points and make the theme clearer.
