The Cleft is Doris Lessing#8217;s new novel published in 2007. In the case of The Cleft, Doris Lessing reinvents the origins of our species by way of female parthenogenesis, with males an unmusky afterthought, the title applies to the genitalia of this first species-'a neat slit, fringed with soft hair'. Ecofeminism is the intersection of two critical perspectives-ecology and feminism.

My essay aims to analyze its feminist idea by explicating the essential effects of the established environment and the symbols. The Cleft tells a myth about human origin. Getting rid of the complications in the modern society, it is easier for us to explain the relations between mankind and the natural environment at the beginning of human development. Although men and women were separated from one another at their birth in The Cleft, the different habitations and various environments lead their combination in the end. The Cleft is a classic novel without any doubt, especially important for the research on Ecofeminism. The novel has implied the harmony between nature and human being and the harmonious relationship between male and female.

Donald A. McAndrew defines ecofeminism as the intersection of two critical perspectives-ecology and feminism--creating a liberatory political and social construction for those who deplore the denigration of nature and women.

Monica Seger pointed out woman may also have an active voice in culture and inadvertently re calling classic, decidedly colonialist notions of nature and woman as related by their need to be tamed and cultivated by man.
